Central Burgenland - better known as "BLAUFRÄNKISCHLAND" to wine lovers - is located in Austria's easternmost province. The most renowned wine towns of Central Burgenland are Horitschon, Neckenmarkt, Lutzmannsburg and, above all, Deutschkreutz.

The three ranges of hills that surround the district to the north, west and south as well as the proximity of Lake Neusiedl, Europe's largest steppe lake, have created a special wind-protected and heat-storing micro-clime.

Deep loam-clay soils produce reds - with BLAUFRÄNKISCH at the head - in qualities hardly reached elsewhere in Central Europe. Yet, there are also gravely lime soils, which are planted with white varieties resulting in light, fruity whites.
